One title I really liked this year was Smoke and Fire by Julie Cannon – the trauma that one of the main characters, Nicole, had experienced and her difficulties in having intimate relationships, as well as discussion of her extensive scars and her being nervous about them, really did it for me. The 3 stars are because even a bad story and character doesn't hide the talent of this author and every great one can have a bad day. Sadly A story that doesn't really go anywhere i'm afraid and by the end i was just glad it was over. Abby as narrator as always rocks it, but even she sounded tired out at some points with all the repeating of issues and no, and whys. Unsure what author was doing there, as next scene kd, was trying make him likeable again. At one point I actually cringed at how he manipulated Dani into feeling guilty, because she's falling apart. He doesn't come across at all as a best friend, more a know it all teenage child, totally in my opinion unlikeable and more concerned with himself. And as for the Jake character i wanted to throw him out. The total switching of characteristics between the leads is never fully believable. The reason for the mains to break up doesn't seem to be more than weak issues. But the characters were very weak compared to other books.
